As a candidate for County Commission my priorities are:
● Smart Growth in Jefferson County – as Jefferson County grows, a focus on the balance between land use and residential and commercial growth is key. Green spaces and recreational areas MUST BE integrated in the plan so that our residents have the opportunity to connect with the outdoor environment.
● Infrastructure – Infrastructure investment should be a top priority as our county grows and should include: increased funding for our fire and EMS companies, investments in schools and youth facilities, water and public works, and parks and recreational facilities. If we view our communities and infrastructure as an investment, we will reap the benefits of having a vibrant, unique, and diverse place to live.
● Solar – a hot topic that must be addressed. While I support green energy, the size, scope, and number of solar farms in Jefferson County must be considered. Large scale solar or industrial companies should not have the opportunity for un-tethered or unrestricted growth in the county. Preservation of farmland is a key component to smart growth. Farmers must be incentivized to maintain and preserve their way of life.
● Government transparency and accountability – citizens must be privy to all major changes coming to Jefferson County and should be allowed the opportunity for input on issues. How, when, and where citizens can get involved for input on hot topics should be published widely and disseminated in a number of ways.
● Support for small businesses – Jefferson County should become a champion for small businesses. They are the lifeblood of a community. A plan should be developed to attract, retain, and make sure small businesses thrive in Jefferson County.
